About
Food is hard to describe. That is the problem we started with.
People rarely arrive at a swallowing appointment with the words for what is happening. They arrive with “bread feels wrong” and “pills make me nervous” and “it is fine some days” . Every one of those is true. None of them is enough to work with.
Food Feel came out of clinical work on exactly that gap: how people describe eating and swallowing, and what vocabulary actually helps them do it. The texture and temperature words, the five-band difficulty meter, the first-person experience statements, the body map. All of it exists to turn a vague sensation into something specific enough to notice, track, and say out loud.
It began inside Swallowing Wellness as a free tool, and enough people used it that it deserved to be its own thing. With an account, a way to track meals over time, and room for the education that the tool kept implying but could not hold.
The rules it is built on
- Your words, played backEvery sentence in your result is built from something you selected. If you typed something in your own words, it is shown exactly as you wrote it and never analysed, summarised or counted.
- Effort is not dangerThe difficulty meter describes how much work something takes. That is all it describes. It never becomes a warning, a risk level or a reason to worry. Those come only from what you explicitly say.
- Safety is never behind anythingEmergency guidance and “when to get help” are free, always, and are not moving into any paid tier if one ever exists.
- Nothing is sold, nothing is tracked across the webThere is no advertising pixel anywhere in this product, no third-party analytics, and no data sale. The only analytics are our own, they hold no free text, and they never leave this app.
What Food Feel cannot do
It cannot tell you what is wrong. It is not a screening test, it has not been validated against any clinical measure. A profile full of difficult ratings does not mean something is wrong, and a profile with none does not mean nothing is. If something feels wrong to you, that is reason enough to ask somebody, whatever your profile says.
When to get helpWho makes it
Food Feel is built by a small team, with clinical input from speech-language pathology. Named credits and the collaboration between Food Feel and Swallowing Wellness will be published here once the arrangement is finalised. Until then this page says nothing about it, because implying an endorsement that has not been agreed would be the wrong way to start.
Education content on this site is marked with its review status. Anything not yet signed off by a named clinician says so on the page itself.
