Food Feel

Pills

Pills are hard for a lot of people.

Most of them never mention it. They take a bigger gulp, tip their head back, and get on with it.

A pill behaves nothing like food. It is small, hard, often dry, and it does not break down in your mouth. Finding it difficult says nothing about you.

Does any of this sound familiar?

These are the things people actually describe. Recognising one is not a diagnosis.

  • Felt stuck in my throat
  • Felt stuck in my chest
  • Could still feel it afterwards
  • Needed several sips
  • Came back up
  • Gagged
  • Tasted bad
  • Took more than one try
  • Was dreading it beforehand

Ask a pharmacist first.

This is the advice most people have never been given, and it is free. A pharmacist knows what your medicine is, what form it comes in, and whether any of it can change. No appointment, no referral.

Food Feel will never tell you to crush, split or open a medicine. Doing that to the wrong tablet can be dangerous, and whether yours can be changed is a question for the label and your pharmacist.

Worth asking

  • Does this medicine come in a smaller tablet, a liquid, or a patch?
  • Is it safe for me to take this with food?
  • Can this particular tablet be split, or does the coating matter?
  • Are any of my medicines making my mouth drier?
  • Could any of these be taken at a different time of day?
  • Is there anything about the way I am taking these that you would change?

Pills are one of seven kinds of thing Food Feel walks you through. You skip whatever you never eat.
