For clinicians
What Food Feel is, and what it is not
Food Feel helps people put words to an experience they usually arrive without words for. It is educational, it is deliberately non-diagnostic, and it is designed so that what lands in front of you is the person’s own description rather than an algorithm’s interpretation of it.
What it is
- A structured way for somebody to describe how foods, drinks and pills feel to them.
- A shared vocabulary: texture and temperature words, a five-band difficulty meter, first-person symptom statements, body location and timing.
- A one-page report they can export as a PDF and bring to you.
- A meal log using the same vocabulary, so a profile and a month of entries can be read together.
What it is not
- A screening instrument. It has not been validated against any clinical measure, and no cut-off exists.
- A severity score. There is no total, no index and no risk band anywhere in the product.
- A diagnosis, or a route to one. It never names a condition.
- A treatment plan. It suggests no exercises, no diet modification and no compensatory strategies.
- An interpreter of free text. Anything a person types is shown back verbatim and never analysed.
How the report is built
Three signals are kept strictly apart and never conflated. Difficulty comes from the five-band meter and is described only as effort, never as danger or concern. Concern comes only from a person explicitly selecting a negative experience statement. Fear wording appears only when somebody chose “I feel afraid of it”, and is the only thing that surfaces the safety panel.
Location and timing are asked only where a negative experience was reported, and are used to separate around-the-swallow sensations from later, lower-down ones. The report shows what that separation looked like; it does not conclude from it.
Every sentence in the summary is generated deterministically from selected values. There is no model in the loop and no generated prose anywhere in a person’s result.
What a patient brings you
A one-page PDF: what they rated, where each item landed on the meter, the experience statements they chose in their own words, a body map of where they reported sensations, and their own typed notes shown verbatim. It is a structured history, not a result.
Nothing is transmitted to you automatically. Food Feel has no clinician portal and no sharing pathway. The person exports their own report and decides who sees it.
